Athletics Kenya (AK) has named a team of 53 athletes to take part in trials to determine who will represent Kenya at the World Relay Championships to be held this year in China.

The trials will take place this Saturday, 12 April 2025, at the Nyayo National Stadium.

The trials will enable AK select Kenya’s relay teams for the 4x100m, 4x400m, and mixed 4x400m events ahead of the World Athletics Relays to take place in Guangzhou, China, on May 10–11.

Africa's fastest man in the 100 metres, Ferdinand Omanyala, will be among the big names that will take part in the trials, as well as his counterpart at elite level, Mark Otieno Odhiambo.

According to Athletics Kenya Vice President Paul Mutwii, the selection will consider both performances on the day and World Athletics rankings to eventually create a solid team that will ably represent Kenya in Guangzhou.

“All the selected athletes have met the qualifying standards at recent local meets and have also been cleared by the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) and the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU)," he said Wednesday at a press briefing held at AK headquarters in Nairobi.

He also stated that as a result of external forces, the team composition might change if need be depending on Kenya's relay ranking.

He also said that at the moment, the 4x100 metres women were yet to qualify for the championships.

“Team composition may change if our relay rankings drop before the qualification window closes. As of now, Kenya is qualified in four relay events, but the women’s 4x100m is still outside the mark,” he said.

On Saturday, there will be a full programme of events that will complement the relay trials.

Mutwii announced that AK will also stage exhibition events, including the 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, steeplechase, long jump, and high jump.
